Bio.

Trevor Hoppen lives!

Born in Ringwood in 1960, went to Ringwood Tech, Box Hill Tech, Prahran Tech, Hawthorn Tech. I have two degrees, one in fine art and design and the other in education. I started off as a stretcher maker at Art Stretchers in Carlton. Affiliated with Roar studios, May '82.
My professional career spans fifteen solo shows and other collaborative ventures.

Quite happy making junk sculpture at the present time and relax by a watercolour!

I work in various materials I like modifying old cameras, making kaleidoscopes and guns out of junk. Someone said to me, "It's all about scopes for you, the eye-piece." An observation I hadn't realised until now, which has some on-going theme in my work.

Jackson Pollock said a bit of craftsmanship will go a long way for an artist.

Influenced by Kandinsky and my peers. I can actually wiggle my ears and clinch my butt at the same time. I could never do that before but I practiced, it made me feel like I was having an epileptic fit but then I got it!!!

I listen to Herbie Hancock and Nina Simone.

Often I dream of flying, but I have to hold my breath in order to do so. I like being surreal but usually people ask me, "What are you on about??"

To which my reply should be, "Sewing machine."
